President Cristina Fernández’s apparently unstoppable path to a decisive defeat of her political opponents came to a sudden halt on 10 July when the electorate in the country’s second largest district voted to re-elect one of her main political opponents, the Buenos Aires City (Caba) mayor Mauricio Macri, of Propuesta Republicana (PRO).
