President-elect Ollanta Humala concluded a mini-tour of the region on 15 June, taking in Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina and Chile, but all eyes were on the final port of call. Humala seemed to strike up a good rapport with Chile's President Sebastián Piñera. The fact that his visit was relegated to just the third biggest news story of the day in Chile was, paradoxically, a testament to his success at conveying a sense of moderation since his electoral triumph on 5 June and sending positive signals to Peru's southern neighbour, symbolised in its inclusion on his itinerary.
