BRAZIL |
Olympic transport. Rio de Janeiro's government has unveiled its new public transport bus. The vehicle uses the flexible fuel technology (Flex), first developed by Brazil during the 1990s, which allows the same internal combustion engine to run on more than one kind of fuel stored in a single tank. Rio state transport secretary, Julio Lopez explained that the local government's plan was to replace the majority of its bus fleet with the new prototypes by the 2016 Olympics. Rio is determined to meet the Olympic committee's requirements for a more environmentally friendly public transportation system. Lopez also explained that the vehicles were designed to run on both diesel and gas so that they could also be used in countries that lacked a developed gas fuel market.
