ARGENTINA: While some wait, others decidedly move on

The self-imposed deadline was 22 May, but 10 days after the electoral win of his political protégé in the primaries of the province of Santa Fe, Governor Hermes Binner of the Partido Socialista (PS) has yet to make up his mind. To run for president, to run as vice-presidential candidate for Ricardo Alfonsín, the presidential candidate of the opposition Unión Cívica Radical (UCR), or to take a break from politics; those are the three options Binner is mulling over, but the man who has always appeared collected and calm may on this occasion be a bit too pensive for his own good. Alfonsín, meanwhile, keeps waiting - but his patience is wearing thin.
