The foreign minister, Milton Jiménez, resigned on 3 January after a video
appeared on the Internet website YouTube showing him striking a police officer
after refusing to be breathalysed on 30 December. Jiménez, who admitted to
being tipsy while driving back from a social gathering in Tegucigalpa, accepted
that his position was untenable but lashed out in his resignation speech at
unspecified "political sectors" seeking to damage the image of the
country by uploading videos to the Internet. The government was embarrassed by
videos put up to YouTube in November including 18 compromising conversations
involving President Manuel Zelaya, senior officials and the director of the
state-owned telecoms company Hondutel, Marcelo Chimirri.End of preview - This article contains approximately 362 words.
