Guerrero back in the Cali race

Significance: The Cali scandal, triggered by allegations that electoral authorities in Valle del Cauca have asked the pre-candidates for bribes to certify their independent registration with 50,000 signatures, is likely to continue snow-balling. The Polo Democrático Alternativo (PDA) has called for an investigation in Santos’s behaviour because a sitting president cannot intervene in electoral campaigns; it has also brought to the media’s attention a 2008 document from the prosecutor general’s office that forbids Guerrero from bidding for, accepting, or participating in public works projects. Guerrero accepts the validity of the document but argues it doesn’t ban him from holding public office.
