ARGENTINA | Still strong. The economy grew by 8.8% in the first half of 2011 compared with the same period a year earlier, the national statistics institute (Indec) reported. GDP growth in June was 8.2%, completing 22 consecutive months of growth since August 2009. Industrial production increased by 9% in the first half, driven by the automobile sector, which expanded by 24% producing 80,795 vehicles, but this would be vulnerable to a slowdown in Brazil.
