MEXICO: Congress to investigate US immunity offer

The attorney general and the foreign ministry must report, separately, by the end of August to the standing committee of both houses of Mexico’s congress on whether the US had indeed offered immunity to Mexico’s two most important drug gangsters. The standing committee’s demand poses a host of problems for the government of President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa and its relationship with the US.
