HAITI: Martelly faces showdown with congress

Things rarely run to script in Haiti, especially on the electoral front, so it is no great surprise that the composition of congress is causing a major ruckus. It was always clear that President-elect Michel Martelly, who takes office on 14 May, would face a potentially hostile congress as his party Repons Peyizan mustered just three seats. What was not clear and remains unclear, however, is just how powerful Inité, the party of the outgoing President, René Préval, will be.
