DOMINICAN REPUBLIC: PLD prepares for elections without either Fernández

Preparations for the 2012 presidential elections in the Dominican Republic are well underway in the two main parties. While the opposition Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD) appears to have overcome infighting caused by its controversial primaries [RC-11-03], officially declaring former president Hipólito Mejía (2000-2004) as its candidate, the process of selecting a potential successor to President Leonel Fernández is now exposing divisions within his Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD).
