Inflation: In the first four months of 2011, inflation in Costa Rica reached 1.53%, one percentage point lower than in Q1 2010. However, the fact that prices registered an increase for the third consecutive month, and year-on-year inflation in April reached 4.68%, has worried local commentators. The main issue they flag up is that both the prices controlled by the government, such as the price of gasoline, and those determined by the market are showing a rising trend. Some local economists now forecast 7% inflation for 2011, above the central bank’s target (4%-6%).
