ECONOMIC OVERVIEW: GUATEMALA

Remittances: Remittances for May 2011 reached US$415.3m, a 16.3% increase on the US$357m recorded in May 2010 and the highest figure ever recorded for a single month, according to Guatemala’s central bank (Banguat). According to the Banguat, remittances for the first five months of 2011 reached US$1.76bn, 10.4% more than the US$1.59bn recorded in the same period the previous year.
