CUBA: China shores things up

On 4 June China’s vice president, Xi Jinping, opened his tour of Latin America in Havana. Xi Jinping is the leading candidate to succeed Hu Hintao as China’s leader. His other two ports of call on his Latin American tour are Uruguay and Chile. Cuba’s economic dependence on China is rivaling its dependence on Venezuela.
