COLOMBIA: Farc strikes with wave of bombings

Never was the Fuerzas Amrdas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc)’s new strategy more in evidence than in the first half of August, when 18 attacks with explosives, in many cases mines, were  staged across nine departments, claiming 16 lives and injuring 35 people, mostly members of the army or police. The main targets were coca eradication drives, but at least two episodes were indiscriminate bombings in urban areas.
