HONDURAS: Officials bemused by string of killings in Colón

The killing of security guards at a rural estate in the department of Colón prompted the deployment of a large army-police contingent to the area, ostensibly to prevent the spread of violence. In the ensuing days two leaders of peasant organisations were murdered in the same area, but authorities are reluctant to link these events to existing land disputes.
