The Argentine weekly Noticias shook-up local politics last week when it published an exclusive 10-page interview with Sergio Schocklender, the former right-hand man of Hebe de Bonafini (head of Madres de Plaza de Mayo) and main suspect in the so-called ‘viviendagate’ [WR-11-23]. Schoklender’s interview is significant both for the numerous accusations he levies against members of the current administration, including President Cristina Fernández’s running-mate in the fast-approaching 23 October general election, Minister of Economy Amado Boudou, and the insight it gives on the widespread belief that rampant corruption in public works contracts is a standard part of doing business with the state.
