President Dilma Rousseff continues to firefight corruption scandals on several fronts, at a fairly hefty political cost to her ill-at-ease ruling coalition. Undettered, the president repeated in early August that she will continue to insist on ‘zero tolerance’ for official graft, noting, “not only is it unethical, but also it makes for a very inefficient government”. Opinion polls indicate broad public support to date for her efforts.
