JAMAICA: A new and youthful prime minister

Jamaica’s outgoing prime minister, Bruce Golding, presided over his final cabinet meeting on 18 October before formally tendering his resignation to the governor-general on 23 October.  His replacement as leader of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and thus as prime minister is Andrew Holness, Golding’s education minister.  At the age of 39, Holness is the youngest person to become prime minister of Jamaica.
