Rate of growth of remittances slows

Latin American migrants in the US and around the world sent US$66.5bn in remittances to their home countries in 2007, according to a report published last week by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). This was only 7% more than for 2006 and the first year of just single-digit growth since the IDB started tracking remittances in 2000. Remittances grew at a rate of 16% and 25% in 2006 and 2005 respectively.
