CHILE: Students defy Piñera’s get-tough approach
President Sebastián Piñera has reacted against the continuing student protests, now in heir fifth month, and the accompanying acts of violence with the introduction of tough new legislation (which congress has yet to consider). Students walked out of negotiations with the government and proceeded to stage more demonstrations, some of them unauthorised, throughout the month of October.
