Homicide has increased sharply in Honduras in the first half of this year. Ramón Custodio, the human rights commissioner (a post akin to that of public ombudsman), has dramatised this rise by saying that the number of murders in January-June (3,602) is equivalent to an average of 600 a month or one every 72 minutes.
