Main turf war escalates in Sinaloa and Jalisco. On 23 November 17 burnt bodies were found in vehicles abandoned in Culiacán, Sinaloa, and another seven in outlying areas. The following days 26 bodies were found in cars abandoned in Guadalajara, Jalisco. In one of the latter was a placard in which Los Zetas claimed responsibility for the killings, which they presented as a warning to the Pacífico/Sinaloa drug trafficking organisation (DTO) and its local allies, the Jalisco/Nueva Generación gang. The abduction of ten of the victims had been reported to the police a few days earlier. Investigators were able to determine that out of 15 victims who had been identified, six had criminal records for fraud, car theft or retail drug trafficking, but said there was no evidence that all of them had belonged to any of the warring cartels.
