Navy’s assessment of drugs industry. Admiral Roberto García Márquez, appointed commander of the Colombian navy three months ago, reckons that though there has been much progress in the fight against drug trafficking, the industry still has a considerable production capacity, and only a portion of that is being detected and intercepted. In his area of responsibility, the Pacific seaboard, he says that production is estimated at about 75 tonnes a year. However, he says, ‘we have seizures of about 25t, which means that there is still a margin of 50t that they are exporting, and we have been unable to detect which organisations are doing this or through where they are going out.’
