COLOMBIA: Virtual communications dominate Farc exchanges

‘Timoleón Jiménez’ or ‘Timochenko’ (Rodrigo Londoño Echeverri), the maximum leader of the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc), released a letter through the website of the pro-Farc Agencia de Noticias Nueva Colombia (Anncol) this week to which President Juan Manuel Santos replied on Twitter. The two sides are communicating virtually, which is not necessarily the same as virtually communicating. These exchanges do not point to an imminent resolution to the conflict, even though some local experts argue that progress is being made behind the scenes – reading between the lines of the communiqué they argue that secret talks are possibly taking place.
