MEXICO: Becoming an election issue

Enrique Peña Nieto, the frontrunner for the presidential elections in July, has started to try to make political capital out of the current drought. He accused the federal government of callously failing to mitigate the effects of the drought. The whole issue was briefly sidetracked by claims that an indigenous group in Chihuahua had committed mass-suicide because of the drought. These claims, which were reported on national television, turned out to be false.
