DEBT: Colombia to increase borrowing in 2012

International bankers expect Colombia to be one of the region’s biggest international borrowers in 2012. This follows a big jump in the country’s debt issuance in 2011 when it increased debt issuance by 150% to US$4.3bn. Colombia’s use of international markets far outstripped the 24% increase in foreign borrowing by Brazil and drops in debt issuance from Mexico, Chile and Peru.
