Dominican Republic| Sinaloa presence. On 1 February the Dominican Republic’s ambassador to the US, Aníbal de Castro, told a US Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control that a Mexican national recently arrested in the DR had confessed that the Sinaloa Drug Trafficking Organisation (DTO) is looking to establish a “route to Europe though the DR”. According to de Castro, the DTO could be operating in Santiago, La Vela and Jaracoba in the northern Cibao region, where they may be receiving assistance from local criminal gangs to secure precursor chemicals.
