US Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano began a tour of Mexico and Central America on 28 February. Her main objective is to deepen collaboration on security issues with the various countries. In Mexico, her first port of call, she met with interior minister, Alejandro Poiré. They signed a bilateral agreement under which Mexico and the US will increase and broaden information-sharing on security issues, which was described as an attempt to strengthen their cooperation in preventing the spread of terrorist activity.
