MEXICO: How many cartels and where are they?

Mexico’s defence minister has joined those who say that drug-cartel influence has spread to much if not all of the country. Reports by the federal public security ministry and the federal police have been cited as portraying more pervasive cartel ‘control’ than officials had so far acknowledged. However, the details that have been published so far suggest that the intelligence the authorities have gathered may be either outdated or flawed.
