Fuel prices: Gasoline prices broke through the HNL100 mark on 9 April with the latest - and 15th successive - increase in fuel prices. Sanctioned by the national petroleum commission (CAP), the higher-grade super gasoline rose 59 centavos to reach HNL100.10 a gallon, while regular gas rose 45 centavos to HNL94.69/gallon. Diesel was set at HNL85.72/gallon. The price of electricity has risen 13% already in 2012, with international oil prices and the devaluation of the lempira to blame, according to the national electricity company, ENEE. The lempira was trading at HNL19.28/US$ on 10 April. Annual inflation was 5.6% in February. According to a January 2012 report by the Central American Integration System (Sica), a basket of basic foods and household products for a family of four cost more in Honduras than anywhere else in Central America last year. Sica put the price of the basic basket at L$6,678 a month in Honduras, or US$350. Elsewhere in the region the same basket cost US$200-US$300 a month.
