MEXICO | Chinese market open for pork exports. Mexico’s agriculture ministry announced this week that the Chinese government has formally opened up its domestic market to Mexican pork meat after it confirmed the certification of a number of Mexican firms as accepted exporters. According to a statement issued by the agriculture ministry, five pork meat producing plants in the state of Sonora have been authorised to export their products to China. The ministry estimates that with the opening of the Chinese market, Mexico’s pork meat exports could increase by as much as 33%. In 2011 Mexico exported some 64,230 tonnes of pork valued at US$322m.
