PANAMA: Opposition mounts new challenge

President Ricardo Martinelli is facing a new threat. The main opposition parties, Partido Panameñista (PPA) and Partido Revolucionario Democrático (PRD), appeared to bury their historic differences last week and, together with the smaller Partido Popular (PP), announced a new alliance against the ruling Cambio Democrático (CD) and what they dub Martinelli’s anti-democratic tendencies. Less than a week since its launch, the so-called Frente por la Democracia has already claimed a victory.
