In Brief – El Salvador

JUDICIARY | CCJ admits appeal against SC. On 22 June the Managua-based Central American court of justice (CCJ) admitted an appeal presented by the president of El Salvador’s national assembly, Sigfrido Reyes of the ruling Farabundo Martí para la Liberación Nacional (FMLN), against a ruling by the constitutional chamber (SC) of the supreme justice court (CSJ), which argues that the 24 April congressional election of five CSJ justices was illegal. The court’s decision to admit the appeal is being hailed by Salvadorean deputies as a sign that an end is in sight to the latest face-off between the two branches of government.
