POLITICS | Another illegal candidacy. On 7 July the ruling Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN) of President Daniel Ortega confirmed that the current mayor of Managua, Daisy Torres, will run for re-election in the 4 November municipal elections. The announcement has met with outrage from the opposition who point out that it contravenes the constitutional ban on mayors and deputy mayors holding office for more than one term (Art. 178).
