PANAMA | Minister for the Presidency quits over scandal. Minister for the Presidency Jimmy Papadimitriu handed in his resignation on 12 July. One of President Ricardo Martinelli’s closest allies, Papadimitriu’s decision has been linked to a corruption scandal over land titling. The case involves 54 hectares (ha) of beachfront property in Juan Hombrón, in the Coclé province. According to reports in the local press, the national land authority (Anati), which was established in 2010, granted titles to the land during an irregular process to 12 companies and two individuals allegedly linked to Papadimitriu. Reportedly the director of the Anati (who has subsequently been removed), Anabelle Villamonte was the personal lawyer of the Papadimitriu family.
