Judiciary starts heeding protesters’ arguments

On 4 May the supreme court rejected the seventh successive appeal by environmentalist groups against Chile’s biggest and most controversial hydroelectric project, Hidroaysén, undertaken by Endesa Chile (affiliated with Endesa of Spain, which is controlled by Enel of Italy) and the Chilean firm Colbún. However, a later ruling on another case suggests that the tide may be turning. For starters, Hidroaysén has been put on hold.
