The UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the US government have produced data filling one gap in their recent reports on coca and cocaine production in Latin America [
SSR-12-07] —that regarding Colombia’s performance in 2011. The UNODC reports the first increase in Colombian coca production since 2007 and a slight dip in potential cocaine production, while the US says nothing about coca production but reports a substantial decline in potential cocaine production, portraying Colombia as producing less than either Peru or Bolivia. This has raised many eyebrows and has highlighted the need for a common methodology and more up-to-date reporting.
