PERU: SL deals another blow to the army

After a string of successes against Sendero Luminoso (SL) in both the Apurímac-Ene Rivers Valley (Vrae) and Huallaga fronts, the government forces suffered two successive guerrilla attacks that claimed the largest number of casualties in a long time. Police are trying to work out the significance of the recent developments, which do not sit well with prevailing intelligence assumptions.
