GUATEMALA: Perez Molina moves on petrol pledge

In August Guatemala’s mining & energy (MEM) minister, Erick Archila, announced the launch of an oil tender for seven areas spanning 791 hectares (ha). This is in line with the government of President Otto Pérez Molina’s declared drive to boost oil production. Guatemala is one of just two oil-producing countries in Central America (along with Belize), but production has been on the wane due to a lack of exploration and the poor condition of existing wells
