HAITI: Pause in campaign to force Martelly out

The first day of October was to have marked the launch of a general strike in Cap-Haïtien, the culmination of a growing anti-government movement that began as a campaign against rising prices and alleged corruption in the government, and evolved into a demand for the immediate resignation of President Michel Martelly. The reason for the pause was not very clear, but the promoters did announce that the demonstrations would continue.
