PERU: Humala handed hottest of hot potatoes

President Ollanta Humala will shortly have to decide whether or not to approve a humanitarian pardon for a man who bestrode Peruvian politics for a decade and is now serving a 25-year prison sentence for human rights violations and corruption. If Humala thinks reaching a decision over the gold and copper mine Conga is complicating his presidency now, deciding whether to approve a pardon for former president Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000) will affect not just the here and now but shape his legacy.
