CHILE: Corruption charges surface ahead of elections

A corruption scandal in the interior ministry is undermining unity in the governing coalition ahead of municipal elections on 28 October. These elections are among the most interesting since the restoration of democracy in 1990 because an additional 4.7m voters have been added to the electoral roll as a result of a political reform pushed through by President Sebastián Piñera last December establishing automatic voter registration.
