PERU: ‘New strategy’ of Sendero Luminoso is perceived

Peru’s security forces believe that the Sendero Luminoso (SL) guerrillas operating in the Apurímac, Ene and Mantaro Rivers Valley (Vraem) have launched a new strategy of attacking large targets such as military and police bases, public buildings and the pipeline pumping gas from the vast Camisea gas fields to Lima. This, at least, is what a Lima daily was told by unnamed “security force sources”.
