HONDURAS: Fears that violence is turning partisan

There is growing apprehension in Honduras that criminal violence, already high, may increase as the primary elections scheduled for 18 November draw closer. Already in October there has been a string of incidents with political connections. Liberal legislator Freddy Nájera narrowly escaped an attempt on his life. Rigoberto Méndez, husband of deputy health minister, Miriam Paz, was shot dead. A relative of Nájera, the father of a mayoral candidate and a third person were killed in a single episode.
