Pérez Molina under pressure over multiple killing. The killing of at least six Quiché protesters in Sololá by members of the security forces on 4 October has put President Otto Pérez Molina under pressure to curb, if not stop entirely, the use of the military for internal security functions. Pérez had initially said that army vehicles were carrying troops to support the police (PNC) when they encountered a road blockade, and that they were not armed. He later amended this, saying that 11 armed military officials were with the squad to guard the three army trucks. He had also claimed that the first shot was fired by a private security guard.
