MEXICO | IFE ruling. On 24 September the Instituto Federal Electoral (IFE) concluded its investigation into the protests after the presidential election in 2006. The IFE executive wants to fine the leftwing Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD) M$57m (US$5.4m) for the post-election protests. Its decision, contained in a 367-page judgement, risks tipping congress back into a party-political standoff. The final decision on whether to impose the fine will be made by the IFE board at its meeting on 29 September.
