PERU: Movadef continues to make waves

Since coming to prominence last year when it saw its attempts to register as a political party thwarted, the Movimiento por Amnistía y Derechos Fundamentales (Movadef) - a civil organisation that campaigns for a general amnesty to be granted to all imprisoned members of the Sendero Luminoso (SL) insurgent group - has turned into a nagging headache for the Ollanta Humala government. Movadef’s perceived threat is considered to be so great, it prompted the government to look to pass new legislation seeking to restrict its influence in Peruvian society [RA-12-09].
