Correa, now officially a candidate, makes banks a campaign issue

The line-up for the 17 February general elections is now almost complete as far as presidential candidates are concerned. Nobody was surprised when President Rafael Correa registered his candidacy for re-election on 12 November; days earlier he had announced that there was “consensus” within the ruling Alianza País (AP) regarding his candidacy. At the last minute he picked former minister coordinator of strategic sectors, Jorge Glas, as his running mate.
