BOLIVIA-CHILE | Confrontation over 1904 treaty continues. President Evo Morales announced in the first week of December that the suit Bolivia will bring against Chile before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over its demand for an outlet to the Pacific is ‘almost ready’. In November he had announced in Spain that he was preparing to denounce the 1904 treaty that, after the 1879-83 War of the Pacific, had surrendered 120,000 square kilometres of Bolivian territory to Chile [SSR-12-11].
