ARGENTINA: Opposition forges electoral front

The two largest opposition parties, Coalición Cí­vica (CC) and Unión Cí­vica Radical (UCR) are building a “front" to contest the legislative elections in October 2009. The government of President Cristina Fernández is also gearing up for the elections. Fernández announced an economic stimulus package to stave off the fear of recession, and quieten speculation about a possible default which has increased in the wake of her announced intention to nationalise Argentina's 10 private pension funds.
